The difference between heaven and hell...
I just finished reading 'Island' yesterday...
it's a good book...I won't recommend it to a casual reader...but for those looking for a deep book...here it is...
it's basically about this island somewhere in the Indian ocean called 'Pala'...
it's paradise...not in a scenic meaning although maybe it is but more on the social structure and moral values...
Huxley made this book somewhat opposite of 'Brave New World'...
critics said that 'Island' is Huxley's portrayal of utopia while 'Brave New World' is of hell...
ironically, I found many similar things in both books...
both uses hypnotis as a mean to control its people...
both regard sex as a casual thing...
both use drugs in their everyday lives...
both have advanced technology...and genetic engineering is used extensively..
and some other stuff...
although both look the same but it's actually...after pondering for quite some time...diferent...
the purpose is different...one leads to the breakdown of individualism and society while the others respect individuality while still keeping the society intact...
how thin the line separating good and evil...but then again...what is good and evil ?
I give this book...4/5...
now reading agatha christie for some light reading... : )
