A Week In Review: It's hard out there for a tech support guy
A few things happened this last week. Firstly, I got a job. I saw a job advert Wednesday last week in the newspaper and I called in and was asked to come down for an interview. I thought it was a lost cause when the interviewer (the boss) talked more about hardware but at the end, I was asked to do a research and come down again on Saturday to demonstrate my findings. It's a kind of trial. I didn't exactly pull it off perfectly but I guess it was enough to land me the job. So now I'm working for a small IT company in Chinatown. The cool thing about the job is that sometimes I don't have to go to the office and can just do my work from home, not to mention the pay is decent. So in a span of one week I've learned a bit about network security and managed to crack my first WEP key yesterday (hooray!) that allows me to ride on someone else's network (it's amazing how lots of wireless networks are unprotected. That's free internet for you, folks), learned how to change my MAC address to bypass MAC filter, setup a wireless network (at this awesome house off Sixth Ave.) and learned how to transfer movies from tapes to dvd with each tape's size reaching 22GB (in fact, I spent last night in the office finishing that job and the boss let me off today to rest. My slightly perverted boss got quite excited by some of the semi-nude scenes in the tapes). It's tiring, but damn fun.
Went to watch 'Man of Letters' Wednesday night as well. Being only the second live musical that I've watched, it's pretty good although the story is kinda typical. Thank you NUS for giving us free tickets.
[Edit: I think I don't give enough compliment to the show. There're funny bits, romantic bits, action bits, and many other bits.]
Unfortunately, I fell asleep and missed Champions League final completely. Blame my job for that. Go Barca!
