It's getting on my nerves
I was watching the news when a news about this Miss Waria (transsexual) that was held in Jakarta a few days ago. That's not what I want to talk about actually. During that event, a posse of people from FPI (Front Penegak Islam) came and demanded that they stop the show. A negotiation was initiated from the event organiser but to no avail. This wasn't any "sexually"-charged show or at least it did not seem to be, and it was supported by the local government. It's basically a normal entertaining show involving transsexuals.
What I was quite pissed about was the reasons of these FPI people. Firstly, is that it doesn't abide the Islamic law. Secondly, Islam has the largest following in Indonesia, thus its opinion must be concidered. Thirdly, it doesn't suit, again, to the eastern values. Fourthly, they claimed that these transsexuals are the ones that are not condone by Islam.
Hmm.
The argument to rebuke the first one is easy, Indonesia is not an Islamic country. Whatever Islamic laws say does not matter if it is not reflected in the law system of this country.
For the second reason that they gave, of course I agree. As the religion with the most following in this country, of course its opinion must be considered. I agree 100%. But it doesn't mean you can come to some event and demand it to stop. Note the word 'demand'. There are other opinions that must be considered as well. And who the hell are you to claim that you represent the whole Muslim population in this country. The people with you are only small minority of the whole population. If you can prove that 51% of the Muslim population agree with you, then I'll listen to your nonsense.
I've already talked about the notion of eastern values in my post some time ago. Let me add some things. Let's do this step by step. Since they say we must follow this eastern values, we can safely deduced that Indonesia as a whole follow this eastern values. Since Indonesia is 'in' the east as well, thus Indonesian culture must contribute some part in this eastern values also. They say dressing with minimum clothing does not aligned with eastern values. If you study Indonesian culture, the people living in almost the whole east part of Indonesia, Borneo and even Bali dress minimally, and I mean really really minimum (which make sense because you know how hot Indon is ?). So it doesn't really make sense with this eastern values stuff. Why can't they just say it contradicts their religious values instead of putting eastern there ?
For the fourth reason, I just want to know which is condone by them.
I think it's really arogant of them to say such things and did such act and I've had just enough of people putting the name of religion to justify their acts.
