The bane of being in the east

So our girl made it to the top 15 of Miss Universe. For once this country made it to top list of a good thing (Actually I'm not sure whether this is a good thing or not because of all that protests). We are among the top for the most corrupted and several others not-so-good list and we should be proud that our girl is considered one of the top 15 of the most beautiful girls in the world ya ? or should I say the universe.

Correction on previous post, it seems that she was involved in the swimming suit thing. She was wearing a one piece. But of course people here are still protesting that the whole Miss Universe thing is a celebration of lust and all that sort. All I can say is that I think she did it with grace and poise even if they say it's not aligned with eastern values.

Forgive me but just for argument sake, what are these eastern values that we "held" so dearly and steadfastly ? Please if someone can make a list of it, it'll be great. 'Cos sometimes I think it's just an excuse by people. She can't go to Miss Universe because it's against eastern values. Globalization is not good because it's against eastern values. We should resist westernization because it's against eastern values. Don't wear that or don't eat that or don't watch that or don't do that. Why ? Because it's against eastern values. The all-encompasing excuse. And I guess riots, bombings, violent demonstrations and corruption are not against eastern values 'cos it seems that they're all this country is about.
