For the love of money...
I'm writing this while watching this show called "Rejeki Nomplok" on TV. I don't know how to translate it to english so I don't bother to try.
Basically, the show is about giving money, big loads of money, to one person who is poor. And then they show the whole process of that person spending that money.
Of course they want to show the emotional side of the whole process and all that.
The thing is I'm not sure whether giving a big sum of money to them is a good idea. While I don't deny that these people really need the money, I'm quite dissapointed on the things that they bought. It seems that they really think in short-term and not in long-term. Financial planning is certainly not in their dictionary.
The fact that they're poor should indicate that they rarely handle big sum of money. And believe me, the sensation of suddenly having loads of money can be too much to some, if not most.
Impulse buying can quickly drain the money away. Really fast.
And another thing is, they show the whole thing to everyone. Now we all know that this city is not the safest city in the whole world. And loads and loads of people are watching this fellow buy gold and stuff and having lots of money. Believe me when I say that I'm not the only one thinking bad illegal stuff.
But then again, it's their money to spend, right ?
Money, money, money...

Oh, man, I hate that show,as well as those similar ones, to the core. 5 juta? Tell me how much the host is paid. Tell me how much a 30-second ad during the show costs. That's not helping, that's pub stunt. Although I have to concede that economically it is a brilliant idea.
