Music Review : Death Cab, Flaming Lips and friends

So I was playing with my iTunes (it's a long story why I have it in the first place) and there were some people that shared their music. So feeling bored with my music list, I started browsing theirs. And I was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of good bands/musician in it. In no particular order :
  1. Death Cab for Cutie
  2. Corrinne May
  3. Flaming Lips
  4. Iron and Wine
  5. Howie Day
and before I can look for more, the guy disconnected. Damn.

Some of the bands listed above are or were indies. My initial perception was indie bands are those screaming rock/punk/metal kind of band and that's why I tend to shy away from listening them, but I was wrong all this while. There are some good not-so-loud-and-no-screaming indie bands out there.

Don't be put off by the name of Flaming Lips's album (it's 'Yoshimi Battles Pink Robot' if you must know) 'cos it got great music in it (eg. 'Do You Realize ?' and 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt.1'). And try not to take the lyrics literally.

And although Death Cab sounds like a heavy metal band or something, it's actually more 'Kings of Convenience'-ish. At least from what I've heard. Same goes with Iron and Wine.

Too bad iTunes doesn't let me copy the songs.

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
-'Do You Realize ?' by Flaming Lips
