MTG Worlds 2005

(Warning: only for magic players. Proceed at your own risk)
This weekend is the Magic : The Gathering 2005 Worlds Championship. Many at stakes there: The player of the year race, worlds championship and world team championship. The player of year race is a three players race between Oliver Ruel, Kenji Tsumura and Masashi Oiso. Tsumura won mainly because of Ruel's "awful" deck selection for Extended. That's one for Japan.

Team USA entered the competition leading and they faced the Japanese in the final. They got bashed in the final with the Japanese winning 3-0. One funny thing that I saw there was Neil Reeves is a big guy. Like a footbal player kind of a guy. Just not what I thought a magic player will be. Just a prejudice of mine. Anyway, that's two for Japan.

Now, I'm watching the world championship final between Frank Karsten and Katsuhiro Mori. Greater Good/Yosei against Glare deck. Karsten played beautifully against Asahara in the semifinal. He gifts ungiven for only two cards getting yosei in the graveyard to goryo's vengeanced for the kill. Beautiful play.

First game was won by Frank and the second game was won by Mori. A twist happened on the second game with a weird interaction between Yosei and Seedborn Muse that all the judges and players missed. They are not starting game four until they resolved this. Game three was won by Mori. That's 2-1 for Mori. I'm waiting for the fourth game now.

They keep the result and only a warning for Mori and game four is starting. Game four for Mori !!! Japan sweeps all three championships. The funny thing is that I never see glare makes a significant play. It's like mirror greater good. Mori locked Karsten with Yosei/Greater Good lock that Karsten deck supposed to do.

It's definitely Japan's year this year. Well, that's all for this sorta live report.

Man, that was fun magic.
