GPT Yamagata

Erick dragged me to Serene Centre for GPT Yamagata. It's all his fault that I missed Joan and Veronica. But it was pretty fun. Getting 14th place out of 44 men field is probably once in a blue moon kind of thing for me. My card pool was decent enough and like always, Draining Whelk, Walk The Aeons and Witch Hunter forced me to play UW. Yes, I admit I made the stupid mistake of not splashing black for Strangling Soot (although starting match 2, it always came from sideboard on game 2 along with Feebleness and a swamp replacing, most oftenly, Flying Men, Screeching Sliver and Fungal Reach) and yes probably it should have been URw, but hey, I have to play UW for my first so-called pro-event. The match record was lose-win-win-lose-win-win netting me 4-2 record and 4 time spiral boosters. The MVP of the deck was most certainly Walk The Aeons. I had one game where I casted it three times sacrificing three islands for each buyback. It threw off combat math as well since people would think that they could win the next turn, but guess what, you ain't getting that next turn. And I have to mentioned Stuffy Doll since I practically killed one of my opponents with about 15 activations of it fueled with, what else, Walk The Aeons. It's kind of a clunky deck where you hold of the ground with underwhelming creatures and just wait for the opponent to make the first move while you're sitting pretty with a Draining Whelk and Walk The Aeons in your hand. Well, it's pretty fun although very tiring. Two things to note is that playing slowly helped me minimized my mistakes and not giving up until you really die won me one game.
