Some pointers on attending an engagement dinner...

I went to a dinner just now...got back at around 11.15 PM...
it was an engagement party...a distant relative...my distant auntie's sister...
few things I noted there :
- do not bring kids to a dinner...they are noisy, cannot sit still, troublesome,etc...although they are quite fun to play with...
- even though it's called 7-course dinner or even 10-course dinner...prepare to get hungry...they don't really serve that much...
- if you don't know most of the people there...sit in the corner, near the people you know and enjoy your food...
- Indons are really friendly...i don't know most of the people there but at the end of it, I knew some and they were very friendly...
- do not wear slippers or sandals to these kind of dinners...I learned this the hard way...
- try to dress up a bit...most, if not all, were wearing formal shirt and a suit...i was wearing a shirt (lucky it was with collar), jeans and sandals...jeez...
- if you are seated with people you don't know...be polite enough to talk to them...even it's the most mundane thing like the weather...
- I was amazed just now...first, it was an engagement party...the couple next to me are going to be married 3 months from now and the other person from the same table is also going to be married at the same time...
- rich people are filthy rich...they can almost do whatever they want...one guy went to singapore when he was in junior high...didn't feel like staying and then went back to Jakarta...another guy went to LA...didn't feel like it either and went back to jakarta also...wish I am that rich...
- a good restaurant doesn't meant good waitresses...and it was crystal jade palace...goodness...hire better waitresses can ?
- Indons are noisy...no need for further proof...
- if some people say, 'the world is so big'...don't believe it...the world is SMALL...the brother of the guy who was engaged is my neighbour back in jakarta...the guy sitting beside me has relatives that were my uncle's childhood friend...I was going to this dinner when I met Wati and Tessie on the way...such a small world, eh ?
- small children are the most determined people and they have the most power...even over adults...ha..ha..
I think that's it...
oh ya...remember one thing...the couple who were getting engaged are living in America...they are living together...then I heard one guy (supposed to be the brother of the engage-ing girl) said...that what's the difference between now and when they are married...
it's like they are already living together...then marriage is only a formality...a tradition that is merely followed blindly...but is there any more meaning to it...?
