The death of memories...
Ronald Reagan died a few days ago...
people said he's one of the greatest american president...a gentleman with many achievements and ideal...
the irony is he died because of Alzheimer's disease...
he couldn't even remember what he has done or who were the people close to him...
personally, I think Alzheimer is the most cruel disease...
I'm not talking about the pain or the effects of it...
but the way it drains your will to survive...the will to live...
most of the times, if not always, family and friends are the reasons you keep on going...they supported you, they give you comfort, basically they are there when you need them...(of course I'm being too general here...but let's make that assumption)
now, if you don't remember about the woman you spent your life with or the guys you usually hang out with...you'll feel alone...
that's what the author of "How To Be Alone" was talking about when he talked about his father who suffered from Alzheimer...
when you feel utterly alone and there's nothing worth living anymore...what's the point of existing then ?
quoting hob from sandman...death is like a thief who comes to your house everyday and steals bit by bit...until in the end...there's nothing more that keeps you attach to this life...
it's the same as alzheimer...
it steals your memories little by little...
first you forget your teenage life...then your wife's birthday...then your cousin's name...then your kid's name...then your own name...then in the end...you forget to breathe...
so it's like a slow death...very slow...maybe not as painful as cancer or other major diseases...at least not for the person...but imagine about the people close to that person...seeing him wasting away...clocks ticking...forgetting everything that they've been through...
in the end, they'll become strangers...
a disease that can sever even the closest ties...
scary isn't it...?
so keep your memories with you...'cos someday it might be taken away from you...like it or not...
...
so remember...
