Malaysian (and Italian) movie fest...

Just came back from watching two Malaysian movies at UCC, 'Sepet' and 'Gol & Gincu'. 'Sepet' was very good. In short, it's about the relationship between a Chinese pirated CD hawker, Jason, and a Malay girl, Orked. Lots and lots of obstacles are thrown infront of them starting from the obvious difference in backgrounds to gangsters. The funny thing is that race was never really a problem for them. It might sound like a typical romance drama and in a way, it is. There were scenes that, n my opinion, too melodramatic(esp. by Ah Loong), but there're a lot of hilarious moments in it as well(the parents particularly) and the ending is good(though I will not spoil it). It makes me want to watch 'Rabun' and 'Gubra' by the same director(Yasmin Ahmad) also.

"It doesn't matter what's the race. In the end, you like who you like. It's when you hate them, then that's a problem"

'Gol & Gincu' is lighter in content. It's like a cross between 'Legally Blonde' and 'Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?'. Just swapped law school and poetry with fashion school and futsal. The main female lead(Nur Fazura) looks like Marcela Zalianty if you squint.

Last Friday, The show was supposed to be 'Jose Rizal' from Phillippine but they changed it to 'Caterina va in Citta' (Caterina in the City), an Italian movie. A movie about a young teenage girl trying to adjust living in a big city when she and her family moved from a small Italian town of Montaldo Di Castro to Rome. It was a good movie as well.

Let the people who have never found true love believe that it does not exist. Their faith will help them live and die easily.
